January 1st, 2012 at 12:56 pm

We always have black eyed peas for New Years lunch, supposedly it brings good luck in the new year. Are there any traditions or superstitions where you live?

LOL...my mother would always prepare pork and sauerkraut and she and my dad would eat it at midnight...for good luck!

Do you do anything like that Mary Ann? I'm interested to hear what others do too! My mother insists on the black eyed peas!

No traditions or superstitions here, but I have heard of the black eyed pea one before.

We had cabbage too, I didn't know about that....I should be lucky then and be able to hold on to my money!

Today I got this http://healthy.betterrecipes.com/hoppin-john-4.html?sssdmh=d... for "Hoppin' John" in an email about "good luck New Year's dinners." It's made with black-eyed peas.

Thanks Analise....I'll try that recipe. I like black eyed peas but honestly don't eat them much. I'll add that to my recipes...anything I can make in the crock pot is a good recipe and this sounds easy.
