Shopping Therapy of Sorts

January 8th, 2012 at 02:45 am

For the most part I'm not really a shopper anymore. I don't look forward to fighting the crowds and standing in line to check out. I guess my favorite shopping is probably grocery shopping, most likely because I like to cook.

I do have times though when I think I'd like to buy new clothes or a new gadget etc. I will go to the store, get a basket and walk through the store looking and placing items in my basket keeping a running total in my head. (This is how I grocery shop also). By the time I get to the other side or end of the store I've talked myself out of buying whatever it is that is in my basket so I will walk back placing items back where I got them. Sometimes I have many things in my basket and this shopping trip takes awhile. By the time I'm finished I might buy a thing or two but there are times I'll leave empty handed. I've only started doing this the last three years or so, it's odd I know but it satisfies the occasional need to shop even though I might not buy anything.

You and I have quite a bit in common! I do the same kind of 'shopping' at times and it really does feel like retail therapy but I spend nothing or very little. I'm not a shopper, either. I don't like the crowds, spending money, the consumerism that's running amok, etc. but I absolutely love grocery shopping! Smile

I must confess to enjoyment when buying certain things I want, but having been out of work so long, I've curtailed those impulses completely.

My pressure release valve, so to speak, comes into play when I do the grocery shopping. Not that I go crazy, but of course you have to eat, so I try to eat well, but economically. I occasionally earn store cash cards doing online surveys, and tho in very small amounts, they allow me the freedom to browse and shop, which is almost as enjoyable as actually making the purchase itself becus it seems like such a luxury.

Like, Target had a sale where you'd get a $5 gift card when you bought 10 Lean cuisines. I eat Lean Cuisines ofte, plus I'm earning points in their online rewards program, so I bought 10,and then decided to buy another 10 later this past week.

So now I'm looking forward to making another visit at the store with my $10 in gift cards, and I KNOW I will want to browse the ENTIRE store to see how BEST to spend my gift cards. My default decision will be to spend it on food, but who knows? Maybe another pair of socks or underwear. Maybe some shoe inserts or a bottle of glue. the possibilities are endless Smile

No, it's Lean Cuisine that has an online rewards program. But Target was offering $5 gift cards when you purchased Lean Cuisine there last week.
